Spelling differences between British and American English:

1. Some words that end in ‘-tre’ in British English end in ‘-ter’ in American English. 

• US theater, center
• Brit. theatre, centre

2. Some words that end in ‘-our’ in British English end in ‘-or’ in American English.

• US color, labor
• Brit. colour, labour

3. Some words are shorter in American English than in British English.

• US catalog, program
• Brit. catalogue, programme

4. Some words that end in '-ize' in American English end in '-ise' in British English.

• US recognize, patronize
• Brit. recognise, patronise

POR QUÉ NO DEBEMOS CONFIAR EN LOS TRADUCTORES AUTOMÁTICOS

A menudo me escucháis repetir que no os fiéis de los traductores automáticos de internet, y mucho menos, que los uséis para hacer vuestras redacciones.
Aunque los servicios de traducción automática han mejorado considerablemente, todavía no lo han hecho lo bastante como para sustituir a la labor del cerebro humano.
El motivo es que los traductores automáticos no son capaces de dar sentido contextual ni connotativo a las oraciones, no registran los matices y no distinguen entre los homónimos, entre otros motivos, entonces nuestros textos quedarán carentes de significado en muchas ocasiones.

Veamos algún ejemplo de un texto al azar:

ENG: "The 30-year-old man was seen falling over the railings by another passenger on the Allure of the Seas, the Royal Caribbean International cruise firm said. He could also be seen falling over in CCTV footage."

----  Con traductor:

SPA: El hombre de 30 años de edad, fue visto caer encima de la verja de otro pasajero del Allure of the Seas, de la Royal Caribbean International, firma de cruceros, dijo. También se podía ver caer otra vez en imágenes de CCTV.

Otro ejemplo (titular de un periódico):
ENG: US prosecutors say they are closing criminal investigation and will not charge cyclist over doping allegations.

---- Con traductor:
SPA: Los fiscales estadounidenses dicen que están cerrando la investigación penal y no se cargará ciclista acusaciones de dopaje.

Y qué pasaría si quisiéramos traducir una expresión puramente coloquial?
Ejemplo:
SPA: "No veas si me ha entrado miedo!"
ENG---- Con traductor: If you do not see fear entered me!*

Como véis, no tienen mucho o no quedan muy bien, porque los traductores no pueden abarcar la complejidad mental del lenguaje humano.
